I am wondering about the unseen side of the moon?

I know the moon spins on its axis and rotates around the earth once every 28 days which is why we only see one side. But those two periods of time would have to be identical for the moon to appear not to slowly rotate. My question is this: are they absolutely identical or is the moon slowly rotating as seen by earth?
