Where does google get its money from?

When you think of all the google apps out there including the search engine, how is it they can offer the service for free? Someone has to pay for all of the servers and support, satellite mapping and data processing, street mapping, chrome browser development. I find it very hard to believe that it's through advertising, so many people use ad-blockers or just ignore most ads.
