How can I pursue my photography dream a little better?

I agree with the second poster 100% and would only add that if you do any other kind of photography, such as landscapes and such, you can try selling stock photos somewhere like fotolia.com or starting a portfolio on a site like redbubble. Redbubble is an awesome place to go for advice and helpful critiques on your work.
